Eine ähnliche Möglichkeit gibt es bereits: Sie können für die benötigten Musikrichtungen sog. Musikauswahlen anlegen (STRG-F drücken; zum Testen können Sie auch die voreingestellte Musikauswahl "Musik der 70er" verwenden).

Im Dialog "Musikauswahl" wählen Sie nun die gewünschte Musikrichtung aus und drücken auf "Suchen". Im Hauptfenster werden nun nur noch die entspr. Titel angezeigt und das Suchfeld operiert nun nur noch über die ausgewählten Titel. Der Dialog "Musikauswahl" kann übrigens geschlossen werden, ohne daß die Musikauswahl gelöscht wird.

Das von Ihnen angesprochene Dropdown-Menu gibt es ebenfalls in ähnlicher Form: Der kleine Pfeil neben dem Suchsymbol ermöglicht einen direkten Zugriff auf die letzten verwendeten Musikauswahlen.

Das liesse sich ja dann auch mit der normalen Suchfunktion kombinieren.
So quasi, zum einen der Musikstil (Auswahl per Dropdown-Menu) und dann bei vielen Treffern noch die Möglichkeit, das mit der normalen Suche einzugrenzen.

Bei so einer Option wäre es vielleicht auch von Vorteil, eben diese nur optional einblenden zu lassen (zB unter "Mein Musikarchiv" oder "Grundkonfiguration), falls jemand dies eben nicht haben möchte.
