To your problem: Have you tried the option "Image cache: Use temporary directory" at "Settings / Advanved / Further options"?

For a first try, please set the option from to "Yes, load images asynchrony" or to "Yes, load images directly and avoid flickering". The latter option needs a faster computer.

There a lots of other settings you may use for optimisation (eg. the place of the temp. directory, its size, the size of the RAM cache etc.), however, hopefully, the simple setting mentioned above will do the job.
